Different Cooking Modes For Microwave Ovens
The newer models of microwaves have adjusted their power levels to better suit specific types of food. For example, if you only wish to defrost frozen bread or meat, you can set your microwave on defrost mode or simply reduce the power level when you cook it. With some of the more recent Bosch Appliances, there are even more options to choose from. You can cook on high, low, defrost and a few others. There are also specific timer settings for food items like popcorn. These different modes and additional features make using the microwave an easier and more accurate cooking experience. You still don’t have the culinary accuracy of a stove or oven, but you still have some control to change your cooking methods slightly to better suit the particular item you’re microwaving.
Many people have used microwaves to cook their popcorn. Microwave popcorn is an actual product and one of the few geared solely for the microwave. Most of the other frozen foods and dishes seemingly geared towards the microwave contain other cooking options. Most food can be cooked in a convection oven as well and will include the heating instructions to cook in that manner in addition to instructions for cooking in a microwave. Many people have begun to change their minds about microwaves and prefer to cook everything on their stove top or in their oven. Many will buy toaster ovens to cook smaller amounts of food faster in replacement to the microwave.
The different cooking modes come in handy when you need to thaw frozen meat before cooking it. The defrost mode can be helpful with frozen meat and other food. For example, if you have a loaf of bread that’s completely frozen, you can thaw it in the microwave before breaking apart the frozen pieces and dropping a couple slices into the toaster slots. You might also need to soften butter in a hurry. If you cook the butter on high, it’ll start to melt and create a butter puddle. If you cook on a lower temperature or on defrost mode, you can soften the butter without melting it. These modes help to control the level of heat or the strength of the microwaves to cook or thaw food with better accuracy.
No matter how many modes they provide with microwaves, they still won’t compete to the accuracy of a stove cooktop or convection oven. They also can’t compare to the end results of the aforementioned appliances. Microwaves cook food quickly but they don’t always cook it well. This is the trade off you make when you sacrifice quality to save yourself some time. With microwaves, you can cook just about anything in about one tenth of the amount of time it takes to cook in a convection oven. You can always cook it in a toaster oven or broil it in the convection oven to speed things up, but you still save time with a microwave. Because they have a variety of modes to choose from, you can now cook your food with a little more accuracy then before.
